What is 3D Laser Scanning?
3D laser scanning is an abbreviation for "three-dimensional laser scanning"; it refers to the recording of objects and structures as a digital point cloud with x, y, z coordinates. It refers to the same technology as 3D laser scanning; in Turkish, the term "3D" (three dimensions) is frequently used, especially in restoration, strengthening, and engineering reports.
Where is 3D Laser Scanning Used?
- Restoration: Non-destructive documentation of the texture and geometry of historical structures.
- Strengthening project: Detection of column, beam, and slab deformations, as-built base map.
- QA/QC quality control: Heatmap analysis of manufacturing/assembly compliance with design.
- Industrial facilities: Modeling of pipelines, tanks, and equipment.
Outputs Obtained from 3D Scanning
Point cloud, BIM/CAD models, sections and plans, deformation reports, and digital archive are the main outputs produced after 3D laser scanning.
