What is a Survey?
A survey is the measured and scaled documentation of an existing structure or space. The aim is to align the actual situation on-site with the project or restoration decisions, including the structural system, facade, details, and elevation relationships.
What is its Practical Use?
It reduces the risk of lost or incorrect drawings in renovation and strengthening, as-built documentation, permit/compliance processes, and historical buildings. Today, surveying is accelerated and geometric quality improved by 3D laser scanning alongside classical measurement with total station and GNSS.
Who Seeks It?
Searches such as "laser scanning survey," "architectural survey," "historical building survey," and "taking a survey" generally lead to the question: Should a drawing or a point cloud be requested? What accuracy class and delivery format (DWG, IFC, PDF sheet) are required?
Important Considerations
The value of a survey comes not just from saying "measurements were taken," but from the geodetic reference, level of detail, and the compatibility of the chosen method (classical/laser/hybrid) with the project objective.
