What is a Digital Surface Model (DSM)?

A DSM (Digital Surface Model) is a digital model that includes the height of all objects above, such as buildings, trees, and bridges, along with the land surface. DSMs are obtained from point clouds produced by drone photogrammetry or LiDAR; they are frequently used in orthomosaic and volume/facade analyses.

Difference Between DSM and SAM (Digital Terrain Model)

SAM (DTM): Bare ground; preferred in excavation-fill and route projects.
DSM (DSM): Ground + superstructure; used for needs such as visible height, shadow analysis, and building height.
