What is a Ground Control Point (GCP)?
A GCP is a reference point, usually marked, with known coordinates, used in mapping or drone photogrammetry. It is used to ensure the produced orthomosaic, DEM/SAM, or map sheet fits correctly into the real world.
Relationship with GCP
In field practice, it serves a similar purpose to GCP (Ground Control Point); the project specifications must clearly specify which term and accuracy class is required.
Why is it Critical?
The quality and distribution of GCPs are crucial for scale accuracy and the legal/technical acceptance of the delivery.
