Assan Aluminum – Machine Room Scan to BIM Project

3D Scanning and BIM Modeling of Tuzla Cold Rolling Mill-2 Filter Room

We have completed a comprehensive "Scan to BIM" project at Assan Aluminum's Tuzla facilities to determine the current state (as-built) of the Cold Rolling Mill-2 Filter Room and create its digital twin.


In this industrial facility, characterized by complex mechanical systems, dense piping, and confined spaces, field measurements were completed with millimeter precision and in minimal time using the Leica RTC360 3D Laser Scanner. Thanks to this advanced technology, capable of measuring 2 million points per second, high-resolution, color point cloud data of the facility's current state was obtained.


This precise point cloud data collected from the field was analyzed by our expert engineering team and transferred to a BIM (Building Information Modeling) environment. All load-bearing steel structures, ventilation ducts, pipelines, and machinery/equipment layouts in the filter chamber were modeled as 3D and intelligent objects.


Values Added by the Project:

  • Zero Errors and High Accuracy: Thanks to the data obtained with the Leica RTC360, measurement errors have been eliminated, and an exact digital copy of the field has been produced.

  • Clash Detection: This system enables the pre-identification of potential clashes within the facility using computer software, prior to planned revisions, capacity increases, or new equipment installations.

  • Cost and Time Savings: Compared to traditional measurement methods, the time spent in the field is minimized, and data is collected quickly without disrupting the operation of the facility.

  • Sustainable Facility Management: The resulting smart BIM model has created a reliable foundation for future maintenance, repair, and operation processes of the facility.
