Bakırköy Taksiarhis Greek Orthodox Church - Orthophoto Production

To ensure the complete preservation of the historic Bakırköy Taksiarhis Greek Orthodox Church, a vital part of Istanbul's rich historical fabric, for future generations and to provide an accurate foundation for restoration work, we carried out a comprehensive digital documentation project. Using 3D laser scanning and photogrammetric orthophoto solutions that collect millimeter-precise data without damaging the delicate texture of historical structures, we created a digital archive of the building.

The church's interior, with its religious motifs, icons, and vaulted structures, as well as its exterior's unique architectural details, were scanned from beginning to end using the Leica RTC360, the most advanced device in its class.

• A Millimetric Digital Twin of Historic Fabric: Thanks to the high-speed and precise scanning technology of the Leica RTC360, we recorded every detail of the church, from its supporting columns to its ceiling decorations, in seconds as a point cloud containing millions of points. Structural deformations and wear and tear over time were detected with zero error.

• High-Resolution Orthophoto Production: By integrating laser scanning data with high-resolution metric photographs, we produced orthophoto maps and drawings of the building's facades and plans that are free from perspective errors and from which direct measurements can be taken.

• The Perfect Resource for Restoration and Conservation: The precise 3D surveys and orthophotos we produce fully comply with monument board standards, providing architects and restorers with the most accurate scientific basis they can confidently use in any restoration, strengthening, and conservation project to be carried out in the church.
