BOTAŞ Sakarya – Photogrammetric Measurement and Topographic Survey Production with UAVs

At BOTAŞ's facility in Sakarya, we conducted photogrammetric measurements and produced topographic maps using UAVs to document the site topography and provide a basis for engineering studies. By revealing the existing land structure and elevation relationships of the study area, we prepared an up-to-date topographic base map that can be used in subsequent planning and design processes.

During field studies, we obtained aerial images of the area by conducting photogrammetric flights with a DJI Mavic 3E. We collected data that allowed for a three-dimensional assessment of the terrain from overlapping images. With this method, we created a data infrastructure for documenting elevation changes and topographic transitions in the area by taking a holistic approach to the field surface.

We processed the images obtained after the flight through photogrammetric analysis to prepare the terrain data that will form the basis for topographic surveys. By evaluating the existing elevations and surface geometry of the site, we made the elevation relationships between different regions legible on the plan. In this way, we created a technical basis that defines the terrain not only by its horizontal layout but also by its vertical characteristics.

The topographic map we prepared reflected the field conditions at the time of measurement, providing a valuable resource for engineering studies such as land preparation, infrastructure design, and elevation mapping. The ability to examine the existing topography through the map allowed for the evaluation of project decisions in later stages, taking into account elevation relationships on the site.

As KG Engineering, in our work at BOTAŞ Sakarya, we combined UAV technology with photogrammetric data processing and topographic map production. By transforming the aerial images we obtained with the DJI Mavic 3E into a usable topographic map for engineering studies, we contributed to supporting field planning and project design processes with up-to-date terrain data.
