ExxonMobil Beykoz – 3D Tank Analysis

Documentation of Tank Geometry and Analysis of Surface Deviations

We conducted a 3D tank analysis study at the ExxonMobil Beykoz site to document the existing geometry of the tanks and evaluate geometric deviations on their surfaces. Using a Leica RTC360 terrestrial laser scanner, we scanned the tank surfaces from different stations to obtain the three-dimensional point cloud data necessary for the analysis.


By combining field data in Cyclone REGISTER 360 software, we created point clouds that comprehensively represent the scannable surfaces of the tanks. During the analysis phase, we derived reference geometries and cross-sections from this data to examine the existing shape of the tank hulls and their deviations from the reference surfaces.


  • Three-Dimensional Documentation of the Tank Hull: We recorded the existing geometries of the tank surfaces by transferring them to a point cloud environment.


  • Comparison with Reference Geometry: We evaluated the inward and outward surface deviations of the tank bodies by comparing them to a reference cylinder geometry.


  • Geometric Analysis with Sections: We examined the shape of the tree trunk, deviations from circularity, and verticality through horizontal and vertical sections at different elevations.


  • Color Deviation Maps: By visualizing surface variations with color maps, we enabled a clear assessment of the locations and magnitudes of deviations.


Our study documented the geometric condition of the tanks at the time of measurement, providing a numerical basis that can be used in maintenance planning and engineering assessments.
