İçhisar and Mithatpaşa Mansions – Laser Scanning and Orthophoto Production

Architectural Documentation and Orthophoto Production with Laser Scanning

At the İçhisar and Mithatpaşa Mansions, we carried out laser scanning and orthophoto production to document the existing architectural features of the structures and to provide a basis for drawing studies. By digitally recording the details and spatial relationships that constitute the architectural identity of the mansions, we prepared a comprehensive data infrastructure for examining the current situation and evaluating it in subsequent project design processes.

We documented the geometry of structures in three dimensions using laser scanning studies. The resulting point cloud data allowed us to evaluate the positions, surface properties, and relationships of architectural elements simultaneously. In this way, we created a digital record based on measurement data, extending from the general form of the structures to their details.

In the continuation of the study, we produced orthophotos using the scanning data. Orthophotos, which allow for the examination of building surfaces in scale and orthogonal projection, transformed architectural details into a base map that can be used as a reference in drawing studies. This method supported the reading of the existing condition on the surfaces and the transfer of architectural elements to the drawing environment while preserving their dimensional relationships.

The orthophotos produced constitute a visual and geometric resource that can be used in surveying and architectural documentation studies. These base maps, reflecting the condition of the structures at the time of measurement, also serve as a record that can be referred to for future examinations and comparisons. When considered together with the three-dimensional scanning data, they allow for the evaluation of the mansions both as a whole and in terms of their individual building surfaces.

In this project we carried out at İçhisar and Mithatpaşa Mansions, KG Engineering combined laser scanning technology with orthophoto production. By transforming the architectural texture of the buildings into measurable and examinable digital data, we contributed to the documentation of the current situation and to supporting future project studies with reliable field data.
