Izmir Tüpraş – Topographic Measurement with Laser Scanning Systems
Industrial Plant Plan with Leica RTC360
At Tüpraş's İzmir Refinery, one of Türkiye's largest industrial enterprises, the "3D Laser Scanning Systems for Topographic Measurement" project was successfully completed to map the current state of the facility with high precision. In complex facilities like refineries, with dense piping networks and tight tolerances, the limitations of traditional topographic measurement methods were overcome, creating the most up-to-date and detailed digital copy of the site.
Technical Implementation and Methodology:
Precise 3D Scanning: Fieldwork was conducted using the Leica RTC360 3D Laser Scanner, which meets industrial standards. With a capacitive speed of 2 million points per second, existing pipelines, pipe supports, static equipment, infrastructure channels, and all supporting systems were scanned with millimeter precision, resulting in a high-density point cloud.
Critical Elevation Determination and Mapping: 3D point cloud data collected from the field was processed by our expert engineering team to produce a detailed topographic map (site layout and elevation plan) of the facility. Pipe top elevations and support locations, which are vital for new piping and revision projects, were clearly defined.
Values Added by the Project:
Advanced Occupational Safety and Health (OSH): In a high-risk refinery environment containing explosive and flammable materials, occupational safety risks have been reduced to zero by using "non-contact measurement" technology.
Complete and Holistic Data: In complex and difficult-to-access areas where pipelines run very close together, no detail has been overlooked, and the facility's "as-built" data has been collected completely in a single step. Error-Free Revision Base: Thanks to the millimeter-precise elevations and equipment placements identified, a 100% reliable engineering basis is provided to design teams for future capacity increases, maintenance, or new line (tie-in) connections at the facility.
Time and Cost Optimization: Field measurement times were radically shortened compared to traditional methods, and the project was delivered without disrupting the refinery's daily operations in any way.
