
Tank Verticality and Ovality Measurement at Shell Derince Facilities
Geometric Analysis and Deformation Reporting
As part of the periodic inspections of storage tanks, which are critical for the safety and sustainability of industrial facilities, we conducted a detailed geometric analysis of the storage tank located at the Shell Derince Facilities. Unlike traditional measurement methods, using 3D Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLSS) technology, the tank's current condition (as-built) was transferred to a digital environment with millimeter precision and comprehensively. By processing data from millions of points, the structural health and geometric integrity of the tank were analyzed.
As a result of this study, geometric irregularities that could affect the tank's filling capacity or pose structural risks have been reported with a precision that will serve as a reference for international standards.
